The sound can be best described as being based on 80’s rock and pop music. However, it is still with a modern twist. Rhythm parts are mostly played by hired drummers or in some cases it comes from a drum machine. One can hear a looseness in the recorded music instead of detailed perfection, which is kept this way on purpose (in most cases).
Sometimes the singing is outsourced to guest vocalists, but this sometimes seems difficult to do.
In all cases you can hear an attempt to catch an ‘atmosphere and feel’ that is unique to the New Key project. Recording is done in a simple studio set-up, while Mixing or Mastering is mostly outsourced to different parties.
